Driver’s education saves lives If your teenager is already driving or is about to learn to drive, bring him or her to the sixth annual “Is Your Teen Road Ready?” presentation on Thurs., March 2 in the Scherr Forum Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can learn about recent changes in state law affecting teenage drivers; hear directly from officials in law enforcement, insurance, driver’s education and the Department of Motor Vehicles; see a vehicle that was involved in a fatal crash; and pick up a driving contract to review with your teenage motorist. The event begins with sponsor and vendor exhibits from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by the presentation from 7 to 8 p.m. The sponsor and vendor exhibits will remain open after the program from 8 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees can also speak with leaders in driver’s education. “All the kids who have gone through this program say that it gave them a broader perspective of the responsibilities they carry when behind the wheel,” said Erin Powell, a Westlake parent and founder of the program. —Sophia Fischer |
