Adobe hosts art contest

Students to design logo

The Leonis Adobe Museum invites middle and high school students to participate in an art contest to design a new official logo for the Leonis Adobe Museum. Public, private and home school students are invited to participate.

The contest winner will receive a $200 American Express gift certificate for his or her design.

“We wanted to give local art students an opportunity to have a professional credit on their résumés,” said general manager Angela Schwanz.

The student art contest is in conjunction with the museum’s educational programs serving schools throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Contestants should enter a simple, creative and original design reflecting the Leonis Adobe Museum, an authentic 1880s working rancho. The grounds include an adobe home, barn, park, vineyard, Victorian period home and a 500-year-old oak tree.

Symbols to consider incorporating into the logo include a ranch branding iron, livestock, museum buildings and Basque and/or Native American design influences.

Students are encouraged to visit the museum to learn more about its colorful history.

Submissions may be one to four-color artwork but must be original and submitted on CDrom in vector format at a minimum of 300 DPI.

Deadline to receive artwork is Sun., April 30. The winner will be selected by the museum board of directors and announced on Mon., June 5.

Entries must include name, address, contact phone numbers and school. All entries become the property of the Leonis Adobe Museum.

The Leonis Adobe Museum is a Monterey-style, living history ranch in Old Town Calabasas at 23537 Calabasas Road.

The museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and Sunday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
