Lowe’s R.I.P.

On behalf of the residents of Westlake Village, I want to thank Mayor Sue McSweeney and Mayor Pro Tem Jim Bruno for their courage and sensitivity in listening to the residents who they represent. The majority of residents want a village-type project for Westlake, not a big box store the size of three football fields that would have more than tripled traffic trips on Lindero.

That’s exactly what the project would have been, just a big box, despite the slick packaging by the developer and their ad man.

Shame on Councilmembers Rutherford and Klessig, who from day one had made their minds up in favor of the big box and tried every trick in the book to get it passed, including getting the developer to hire former mayor Chris Mann as a lobbyist.

Their futile attempt at last week’s council meeting to get the project reconsidered after it was rejected by the council, with legal tricks and manipulation of city staff, was shameful.

Hopefully somebody will run for Klessig’s council seat next year. Our elected council members should be held accountable for their acts.
