Local temple to hear scholar
Temple Beth Haverim to hosRabbi Alexande
Temple Beth Haverim will host visiting scholar Rabbi Hanan Alexander on Friday night, Feb. 10 and Saturday morning, Feb. 11. He will present “Education and the Spiritual Quest,” a talk based on his book “Reclaiming Goodness: Education and the Spiritual Quest,” which won a 2001-2002 National Jewish Book Award. He will discuss the political successes and moral failures of contemporary life, the spiritual awakening that has emerged as a result and what religious and educational institutions can learn from this critique to retool for the new century. The public is invited to attend. The events are free but donations are welcome. The rabbi is associate professor in the faculty of education at the University of Haifa, where he heads the university’s Center for Jewish Education and Department of Overseas Studies. He earned a PhD in education and humanities from Stanford University and was ordained a rabbi by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Alexander has published widely in a variety of academic and professional venues and writes regularly on contemporary Jewish affairs for the Anglo-Jewish press. Temple Beth Haverim is at 29900 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills. For more information, call the temple office at (818) 991-7111 or visit www.templebethheverim. org. |
