Valentine’s Day a good time to remember more than the love of your life

It’s hard to say who gets the most out of Valentine’s Day, men or women.

Men get romantic reminders everywhere that Feb. 14 is fast approaching. Women, for one day out of 365, finally get a man who’s in touch with and expresses his feelings— for at least part of a day.

Valentine’s Day is both good and bad.

Good because almost everyone will remember that precious loved one, the most significant person in his or her life.

Bad because we shouldn’t need a special day just to remind us to express our love to that very important person. We should remember her or him every day.

Valentine’s Day is not, however, a time to play “should’ve, would’ve, could’ve.” Instead, why not take something positive and carry it a stop further?

Don’t limit it to romance.

People whom you care about deserve to be told that you care. Family members, friends, coworkers—if they give meaning to your life or make your world a better place, Valentine’s Day is a good time to remember them, too.

For some people, Feb. 14 can be a downer. While the world is full of greeting cards, candy-filled hearts and flowers, Valentine’s Day can be dark for a person who’s gone through a failed relationship or is divorced, separated, widowed or alone. If you know someone in any of those categories, why not give them a call over the weekend just to let them know you care?

Whatever you do next Tuesday or over the weekend, find a way to tell that special someone—and your children, parents, grandparents, friends or whomever—that they are appreciated.

And have, of course, a nice Valentine’s Day.
