Local radio station receives 11 awards For the fifth year in a row, KCLU won more Golden Mike awards than any radio station in Southern California in ceremonies on Jan. 21 at Universal City. The National Public Radio station, licensed to California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, was honored in 11 Division B categories by the Southern California Radio Television News Association. Among the most significant awards for the KCLU team to win were Best Spot News coverage for the team effort of reporting the La Conchita landslide disaster and Best News Special for live coverage of the Topanga brushfire. “We’re honored and humbled by our peers’ recognition of KCLU’s excellence in covering local news and providing vital public affairs programming,” said KCLU General Manager Mary Olson. “We are very proud of the entire team and of the support we receive from our community to help public radio fulfill its important role.” The station was also honored for Best Radio Individual Writing and Best Radio Use Of Sound for “Vietnam Wall,” Best Radio Feature News Series Reporting for “KCLU Artswatch,” Best Radio Serious Feature Reporting for “Hiroshima Remembered,” Best Radio Sports Feature Reporting for “Cowboys Camp,” Best Radio Public Affairs Programming for “Crosstalk: Minutemen On The Border,” Best Radio Light Feature Reporting for “Credit Card King,” Best Radio Entertainment Reporting for “Tiki on The Run,” and Best Radio Hard News Series Reporting for “Election 2004.” KCLU is a National Public Radio and jazz station. It broadcasts on 88.3FM in Ventura County. |
