Lindero Canyon announces its Regional History Day team

At the culmination of the Lindero Canyon Middle School’s 16th annual History Day on Jan. 11, the school announced the students chosen to participate on the Lindero Canyon History Day Team.

These students will compete for the Los Angeles title on March 25 at Azuza Pacific University.

Following are the winners:

Individual papers: David Cooper, “Hollywood Ten Standing Against Censorship;” Hannah Finders, “Integration: the Need for Great Teachers in All Classrooms;” Ali Hamed, “Jackie Robinson— Taking a Stand Against Racism in Sports;” and Kennedy Ward, “Interracial Marriage: Taking a Stand Against Prejudice.”

Individual exhibits: Kyle Anderson, “John Muir: Taking a Stand for California’s Land;” Alana Goldmann, “Coco Chanel: Inventor of Modern Clothing;” Aubrey Linder, “Walt Disney: Taking a Stand with Imagination;” and Megan Pelter, “Elizabeth Blackwell: Leading the Way for Women Doctors.”

Group exhibits: Sonia Amodeo and Katherine McMahon, “1989 Protests of Tianamen Square: Students Take a Stand Against Their Government;” Angela Chen and Katherine Liu, “E Equals MC Squared: Ideas Taking a Stand for Scientific Truth;”

Joshua Hershman and Jordan Francis, “John Scopes: Defending the First Amendment;” and Jack Petros and Benjamin Samel, “Taking a Stand in History: John Marshall Establishes Judicial Review in Marbury vs. Madison.”

In individual documentaries, Sarah Wagner won for “Moses: His Fight Against Pharaoh.”

Group documentaries: Jeremy Fiance, Jordan Moss and Bryan Quintanilla, “Bob Geldof: Raising Awareness and Money for African Poverty Through Live Aid;” Ari Galper, Colin Rosemont and Andrew Thompson, “Protest Songs: Taking a Stand;” Keva Hosozawa and Weslie Lechner, “Morgan Spurlock;” and Theodore Kokiousis and Sammy Steinman, “Joan of Arc.”

For individual performance, Amanda Morris won for “Susan Brownell Anthony.”
