Student actors are congratulated

I feel compelled to share my experience after watching this unique group of young men and women perform “The Laramie Project” at Oak Park High School recently.

The Spotlight Theatre Company play was entirely student produced, directed and acted, with supervision provided by theater director Allan Hunt.

As I watched this remarkable story unfold, I was struck by the enormity of the message these students had chosen to portray. They tackled with exquisite accuracy and sensitivity a challenging and difficult production. The audience knew immediately that these students were deeply affected and that they truly grasped the magnitude of the material they were presenting.

There was not a dry eye in the house.

I was surrounded by adults and teenagers alike and all of us were profoundly moved. I left this evening feeling encouraged and excited about the future of our next generation, for if this is any indication then we are all truly lucky.
