Tribute to a hero

BRAVEHEART—Firefighter/paramedic Eric Allen proves that real-life heroes do exist. Allen received a lifesaving medal from the San Diego City Fire-Rescue Department for his heroic actions on the morning of Dec. 17, 2004. Along with fellow firefighters, Allen repeatedly entered the Mason Hotel through a raging fire and billowing smoke to rescue several occupants. Allen graduated from Agoura High School in 1989. Here he relaxes with wife, Patty; son, Henry, 3; and daughter, Lucy, 7 months. The Allen family lives in Oceanside, Calif.
