AHS auction aims to raise over $30K A signed guitar by Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi fame is one of the many items available for bidding at Agoura High School’s annual auction on Tues., Feb. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the First Neighborhood Community Center in Westlake Village. The auction is the largest fundraising event produced by the Associated Student Body (ASB). This year’s event has a “Winter Wonderland” theme. A second signed guitar from the rock band Toto will also be up for auction. Movie and television memorabilia for bidding will include merchandise from the movie, “Napoleon Dynamite,” the TV series, “Family Guy,” and a previously unreleased and autographed “The OC” script. Besides the signed guitars, event organizers hope to offer the Lakers suite at the Staples Center and a team signed and framed Galaxy jersey. The school’s athletic teams have also contributed items, including a gambling basket with a poker tabletop, card shufflers, other gambling items and a barbecue basket. Vacation getaways for auction will include trips to Hawaii and the Miracle Springs Resort in Palm Desert. Other items are spa retreats, Valentine’s Day gifts, beauty and pampering baskets, DVD collections, jewelry and more. Beth Stern, a senior and cocommissioner of fundraising with Sarah Kelly, said in keeping with the winter theme, hot chocolate, cappuccino, lattes and other warm drinks will be available, and dinner will be catered by Rosie’s Bar-be-cue in Westlake Village. Last year’s event earned $26,000, but Stern hopes to make more than $30,000 this year. “It’s our most important fundraiser and the funds are vital to our extracurricular programs,” Stern said. “The student council has been working on collecting items from the community since June, and we’re proud of the results.” The Agoura Jazz Band will be performing at the event. The silent auction raises funds for many school programs, including performing arts, the after-school program, athletics, dances, homecoming and more. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Agoura High School or at the door. For further information, visit www.ahschargers.com. |
