Devine’s name in vain

With regard to The Acorn’s Jan. 12 opinion statement on the passing of Lesley Devine that “today is not a time to mournrather to celebrate,” I do rather think that a more careful look at the text before publishing it might have revealed the possible double entendre that the phrase conveys.

Indeed, rather than presenting a humane elegy, the opinion column goes on to bring up what made Lesley controversial: her resistance to big business and big development. That happens to be what made Lesley a friend and ally of many citizens in this community. To so turn what should be a personal elegy into a political obituary seems inappropriate at best, and unfeeling at worst on The Acorn’s part.

But at least The Acorn’s accompanying article on Lesley’s death had the good grace not to

nclude an obituary statement from Barry Groveman, who, af
