Couple to be honored at dance

On Sun., Feb. 12, Haverim B’nai B’rith, the local unit of B’nai B’rith International, will honor Mel and Norma Silberberg at the annual gala Sweetheart Dance at the Renaissance Hotel, Agoura Hills. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The Silberbergs have been members of Haverim for more than 10 years. They have served as executive vice presidents and presidents of the unit for four years and currently are co-executive vice presidents of Haverim. The couple has participated in many community activities of the group, and Mel has organized and chairs a committee to investigate building affordable housing for senior citizens. He also serves on the Thousand Oaks Council on Aging and is a representative to the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council.

A highlight of the dinner dance will be a fashion show featuring styles of the 1940s. Costumes of the era will be modeled and several impersonations of leading actors will be presented.
