In a Nutshell The FCC is working to alleviate the problems and risks posed by Internet telephone service. The following steps are being taken: •All interconnected VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) providers must automatically provide 911 services to customers as a standard feature without customers having to request the service. •Before a VoIP provider can activate a new customer’s service, the company must obtain from the customer the location where the service is being used so that all 911 calls can be handled correctly.
