LASSIE RETURNS—Pie Pie the terrier proves to be a modernday hero after saving a drowning dog by alerting nearby humans who came to the pup’s rescue. Linda Le Vine told us about her terrier Pie Pie (short for “cutie pie” but “too cute for one pie”).

The family took Pie Pie and their chocolate lab, KoKo, to visit a friend who was dogsitting Misty, a one-eyed Labrador. Both Pie Pie and Misty are afraid of water and were watching KoKo swim in the pool. Misty apparently fell into the pool and Pie Pie knew instinctively that Misty was in trouble.

Pie Pie rushed into the house and frantically pulled Le Vine’s husband’s pant leg toward the yard. She kept growling and pulling until he followed her outdoors. Misty was close to drowning, but he jumped into the pool and rescued the lab.

“It was as if Pie Pie was brought into our lives to save Misty,” said Linda. “Pie Pie is our love and our hero.”
