Lowe’s just another Home Depot

I stood in the standing-roomonly crowd in the First Neighborhood Community Center tonight and listened to the discussion on the proposed Lowe’s development and could not believe what I was hearing from the panel.

Even though this development requires an amendment to the master plan and will involve more than 227,000 square feet of retail space, including Lowe’s, which will cover a land mass of over two football fields, and just on weekends alone, the volume of traffic will exceed 23,000 car trips, and the air quality will be compromised by the massive increase in traffic, Westlake City Council still refused to allow its residents to vote on this project.

All Acorn readers who were here in 2001 will no doubt remember the resistance in Agoura to the proposed Home Depot, which would have been 140,000 square feet plus.

The Lowe’s project exceeds the size of the 2001 Agoura Home Depot proposal and this is definitely not just a local issue. Agoura residents voted no on the Home Deport project. Calabasas residents recently voted no on a major development project.

Westlake Village citizens should be given the right to vote on this. J.L. Edwards Westlake Village
