Slavin did the right thing

On reading the Jan. 5 article, “Slavin will not vote on Lowe’s,” I had the happy occasion to experience something rare in reading about politics: pride. No matter what either side might have to say about Mr. Slavin’s decision to abstain from the impending vote, what is obvious is that he made a difficult but responsible decision. His action is something to be applauded.

Mr. Slavin has demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt his commitment to our community, a commitment strong enough to make him the best kind of community leader: a responsible and unselfish one.

Mr. Slavin deserves our support and our thanks for making this difficult decision and for reassuring us that, yes, there are some in politics who hold responsibility and duty to their community to be foremost in their political convictions.

Mr. Salvin, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and the gratitude of others who understand the moral convictions that led you to make your decision. No matter how the Lowe’s vote turns out, we understand and are appreciative of your service to our city and the composed manner in which you have dealt with an unfortunately difficulty issue.
