Book signing for online therapy guide

Psychologists, therapists, life coaches and mental health and wellness professionals will have the opportunity to meet and talk with Kathleene DerrigPalumbo, PhD, MFT when she signs her book, “Online Therapy: A Therapist’s Guide to Expanding Your Practice,” on Sat., Jan.14 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Barnes and Noble Bookstoreat The Commons in Calabasas

The book, written for psychotherapists, discusses the nuances of online therapy and how therapists can incorporate the new medium into their existing practices.

Although some psychologists prefer the traditional face-to-face therapy to online therapy, DerrigPalumbo said, “We know the Internet is a means to reach people who would not otherwise receive treatment. We also know that the technology is already here and in use, and that if we, as professionals, learn to use it wisely, responsibly and ethically, we can do much more to meet the mental wellness needs of our society.”

According to “Mental Health: A Report of the U.S. Surgeon General” (Surgeon General, 1999) “traditional therapy is inaccessible to many people because of the stigma associated with it.”

The report states that nearly two-thirds of people who need mental healthcare never receive it because they are too embarrassed to make in-person contact with a therapist.

Derrig-Palumbo will be on hand immediately following her book signing to answer questions for professionals in the mental health and wellness industry and the general public.
