Distracted driver was dogging it

I am 26 years old and I would not say that I’m a perfect driver. I do make mistakes, but my driving record shows no accidents or tickets in my history of driving.

On Thurs., Dec. 22, I was coming home from playing golf in Moorpark. I was a few blocks from my house, waiting in the left turn lane to turn left onto Conifer Street from Kanan Road at about 1:45 p.m. My arrow turned green, allowing me to proceed into the intersection legally.

I am a very defensive driver. As I was scanning the intersection, I noticed a black Expedition that was not slowing down, coming toward me northbound on Kanan Road. I watched as this woman, doing at least 55 to 60 mph, proceed through the intersection, blowing her red light.

I stopped halfway through the intersection, slamming on my brakes and laying on my horn. As she passed me, I noticed a little white dog sitting on her lap. As she swerved around me to avoid hitting me, I don’t know how she avoided running her Expedition up on the curb.

The real reason I am writing this letter is to let everyone know how dangerous it is to drive with your dog in your lap or to drive with your cellphone to your ear. People who do this are not paying attention at all and need to be off the road before they kill someone. Chris Graham Agoura Hills
