A winter series of events for school age children will get underway Wed., Jan. 18 and continue every Wednesday until Feb. 8 at the City of Calabasas Library. All programs start at 4 p.m. and last about an hour.

On Jan. 18, theatre group Creative Playground will present “We Shall Overcome,” interactive stories and songs celebrating the life of Martin Luther King Jr. On Jan. 25, Abbit the Average will engage the audience with comedy and magic.

The Stroud Puppets will perform for children age 5 and under on Fri., Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. All programs are presented in the library multipurpose room and are free to the public. Call Jill Nevins at (818) 225-7616 for more information.

On Feb. 1, Christi Lewis, the international record holder in trick roping, will bring the American cowboy heritage alive. On Feb. 8, David Cousins performs his funny and interactive juggling routine.

Art is displayed in the library and the exhibit changes every six weeks. Currently the paintings of Casey Mowery are on display.

From Jan. 15 to Feb. 19, Hifa Farah Nassery will display designs on silk and cotton. In connection with her exhibit, guest speaker Patrick Connolly, an independent researcher of ancient Persian history, will present an “Overview of the World of Ancient Persia and the Message of Ancient Persian Art” at 2 p.m. Sun., Jan. 22.

The Friends of the Calabasas Library is a volunteer group that helps raise money for the library. They are actively recruiting members, so this is a chance to help the community while doing something fun. Please call Barbara Lockwood at the library to join.
