Viewpoint School’s new academic center to be named for Gates family Viewpoint School’s Headmaster Dr. Robert Dworkoski announced the school will name itnew Academic Center in honor of Dirk and Tina Gates, who gave the lead gift to support the school’s capital campaign for endowment and to build the Cornerstone Project. Dirk Gates is the former chair of the school’s board of trustees and also serves on the board of directors for CSUN and Pepperdine’s board of visitors for the Graziadio School of Business and Management. He’s the founder and CEO of Westlake Village-based wireless firm Xirrus Inc. The Gates live in Westlake Village and their three children attend Viewpoint. “Our oldest son will graduate from Viewpoint this year,” said Dirk Gates. “During the time that he and his siblings have attended the school, we have been so impressed with its unique educational environment. Viewpoint offers a rigorous college preparatory academic experience, yet our children are also becoming well-rounded, accomplished athletes, musicians, artists and scientists. We are true ‘lifers’ at Viewpoint and believe wholeheartedly in the school’s mission.” “Dirk and Tina Gates have been generous and energetic leaders of our school,” said Dworkoski. “They strongly believe in the excellence in education that Viewpoint School provides.” The Gates Academic Center houses the Upper School, enrolling 432 students in grades nine through 12. The 40,925-square-foot building features 19 classrooms, state-ofthe-art science labs and a technology center, all set in a restored natural environment that includes a stream. |
