Coldwell Banker Announces Operation Red Stocking A Success
For the second year the agents and staff of Coldwell Banker Westlake Village Promenade and their committee leaders, Joel Singer and Andrea Healey, have worked together to prepared holiday CARE packages, dubbed “Operation Red Stockings,” for our troops on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. These packages are shipped to individuals on the front lines, and are expected to be delivered by the end of November.
After the success of last year’s program the agents decided to challenge themselves with a goal of 1,000 packages. They contacted their clients, friends and family, local schools, churches and community groups. In early October the supplies started to arrive at the office. Some people packed their own boxes, while others donated items to be sorted and packed, or cash to assist in the shipping costs.
“We have been overwhelmed and gratified by the support of our local community,” said Frances Lewis, branch manager. “People have really appreciated the opportunity to show their support for our service men and women, and to make the holidays a little brighter for them. Some of the most touching letters and cards have come from local elementary schools. This year’s effort packed 1,079 boxes, all with a personal letter or card inside, and raised $2,500 in donations to offset shipping costs. Remaining costs are picked up by the organization that handles the shipping, “Pen Pals For Soldiers”.
With warmed hearts we’d like to thank all the individuals, organizations and business’s throughout our community who helped to make this all possible. Though there are too many individuals to mention, we would like to acknowledge a few of the groups who contributed: VFW Post 7799, Westlake High student PTSA, Diane Boyd of Curves, SFV Girl Scout Troop No. 963, WLV Girl Scout Council-Whispering Oak, Boy Scout Pack 3761, Boy Scout Pack 3698, SV Girl Scout Council -Tres Condados, Agoura High Cheer, Westlake Elementary students, Pinecrest Elementary students, Nubia Ascher Las Goldies, Bella’s Twinges & Hinges, and Latin Prima Donnas Red Hat Society.
Operation Red Stockings is just a part of the Coldwell Banker Westlake Promenade ongoing community involvement and outreach program. “Since the success of our office is so closely linked with the quality of our community, we are always looking for ways to make a difference,” said Lewis. “In the past year we have worked with Habitat For Humanity and breast cancer research. Our next project will be our annual collection for Toys for Tots. Our office at 650 Westlake Blvd. at The Promenade will be a designated collection site in conjunction with the Conejo Valley Association of Realtors, with donations staying within the local community.” Donations will be accepted through Dec. 15h or call us at (805) 496-3291.
