Favorite books come to life at public library

The Los Angeles Public Library will present a “Performing Books” program for children ages 4 to 10 at 2 and 3 p.m. Sat., Dec. 10 in the Central Library’s Mark Taper Auditorium, 630 W. 5th St., in downtown Los Angeles.

Dancer Channing Cook Holmes with storyteller David Prather will team up in an interpretation of Lynne Barasch’s book about tap dancer Peg Leg Bates titled “Knockin’ on Wood.”

The presentation will introduce children to the true story of Clayton “Peg Leg” Bates. As a little boy a tragic accident left him with only one leg, but that didn’t prevent him from fulfilling his dream to dance.
