Community garden activities planned Members of the Oak Park Gardeners will meet at 7 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 15 at Mae Boyar Park, 130 N. Kanan Road, Oak Park to elect a new board of directors. During the meeting, membership renewals for 2006 wilalso be accepted. The Oak Park Community Garden currently has several parcels available to members of the community who have an interest in gardening. Each parcel is 10 by 20 feet. This is a good time of year to plant a winter crop of vege t a b l e s a n d / o r f l o w e r s , according to the group. T h e Gardeners club hosts an open house from 9 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the garden at the corner of Sunnycrest and Kanan in Oak Park. The open house offers an opportunity for residents to meet gardeners and obtain more information about the garden. The Oak Park Community Garden is an activity committee of the Community Foundation for Oak Park and is located on land owned and operated by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. Its purpose is to maintain an organic community garden that will provide education and b e a u t i f i c a tion for the community. P r e s e n t l y there are 51 parcels that have been allocated to members of the community who have planted a huge assortment of vegetables and flowers, according to group spokesperson Susan Friedman. |
