OPHS to host concert

The annual Oak Park High School Band and Choral Holiday Concert is at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 8 in the OPHS Pavilion, 899 N. Kanan Road, Oak Park. Admission is $5 and the event is open to the public.

Led by Heidi Cissell, OPHS music teacher, the choral portion will include a mix of the classical as well as such lighthearted numbers as “Hanukkah in Santa Monica,” complete with dancing girls in top hats and canes, sung by the Chamber Choir, the Advanced Women’s Ensemble, the Madrigal Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble.

The Concert Choir will present “Songs of Days Now Gone,” a more serious work from the “Holocaust Cantata.” This work will feature several vocal solos and a cello solo, as well as readings based on interviews, transcripts and historical data found in the U.S. Holocaust Museum archives. The songs in “Cantata” were written by prisoners incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps and were originally in Polish.
