School funding is questioned Former Agoura Hills Councilmember Jack Koenig’s letter in last week’s Acorn regarding the city of Agoura Hills and school funding was very revealing. I know Koenig has been out of government for a while, but I hope he hasn’t been deliberately misinformed by the city as so many have. Doesn’t Jack know that it was Mayor Pro Tem Weber and Councilman Edelston, both of whom he supports, who brought the motion before the city council earlier this year for the city to fund $100,000 for the Las Virgenes Education Foundaton—that Calabasas has given over $1.5 million to—and that the funding was voted down by the council? Just ask the Las Virgenes School Superintendent, her assistant, the mayor of Calabasas and the school principals privately if they think the city of Agoura Hills does their share. The city keeps hiding behind the Redevelopment Agency and Measure E as an excuse for not giving any money to the Education Foundation. The city of Agoura Hills was so embarassed by the article in The Acorn a few months ago on the city’s lack of school funding that they had to bring Stuart Selter, who has been raising money for the Education Foundation for the past few years with the Chamber’s help, to a council meeting to say that Measure E has given the schools all they need. This is why the Chamber needs an ad to help educate the citizens.Otherwise, Agoura Hills will continually be allowed to mislead parents and students into thinking the citdoes enough for our schools.
