Weber, Koehler, Schwarz win Agoura Hills election

Experience mattered to Agoura Hills voters when they cast their votes for city council on Tuesday. Incumbent Denis Weber won his fourth term on the council with 2,841 votes, or 22.3 percent. Weber, a bank vice president, also will start a new term as Mayor of Agoura Hills in January.
William Koehler and Harry Schwarz, both longtime city planning commissioners, came in second and third in the race. Koehler, an attorney, tallied 2,770, or 21.8 percent of the votes, while Schwarz, a b u s i n e s s m a n , earned 2,609 votes, or 20.5 percent.
Six candidates ran for three city council seats that were left open after Mayor Ed Corridori and Councilmember Jeff Reinhardt chose not to run for reelection.
Koehler said he is grateful for the support he received from residents of Agoura Hills.
“I look forward to working with my fellow councilmembers to make Agoura Hills a special place to live and work,” he added.
“It’s been very gratifying,” said Schwarz, “and I’m honored that the citizens of Agoura Hills elected me. It shows again that the citizens of Agoura Hills are knowledgeable, understand the candidates and understand the issues. I hope to live up to their expectations in the coming years.”
Todd August, chief administrative officer for the UCLA Economics Department and the candidate who raised the most funds, received 2,184 votes, or 17.1 percent.
Businessman George Christopher Thomas, in his third unsuccessful bid for city council, garnered 1,610 votes, or 12.6 percent. Student Adam Lewis Guynes spent no money on his campaign, but still garnering 690 votes, or 5.4 percent of the total.
Voter turnout in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s $60 million special election was impressive. Countywide, officials reported 41 percent of the voters made it to the polls or mailed absentee ballots.
Out of 12,240 registered voters in Agoura Hills, 4,759 residents, or 38.8 percent, cast their votes at the polls or submitted absentee ballots.
