Voters in Las Virgenes Unified School District returned two incumbents and elected one newcomer to the board of education on Tuesday.

Four candidates ran for three school board seats. The newest member is Dave Moorman, a tireless fundraiser and volunteer for the local public schools.

Incumbents Cindy Iser, a Calabasas attorney, and Gordon Whitehead, an Agoura Hills certified public accountant, captured the highest number of votes.

Iser, currently serving as vice president of the school board, led the overall balloting with 8,025 votes, which represented 29.7 percent of the total.

“I am honored that the community has placed their trust in me for another four years, and I’m gratified that the voters have embraced the direction of change and improvement which I’ve helped bring to the district,” said Iser. “I look forward to continuing my work on the school board for the benefit of all the children and families in the district.”

Board President Gordon Whitehead, an Agoura Hills certified public accountant, finished with 7,335 votes, or 27.1 percent.

“I’m glad to have the chance to do the work again,” said Whitehead. “There’s a lot more to do. I’m happy that the voters had confidence to allow me to continue.”

Iser and Whitehead will each start their second term on the school board.

The open seat being left vacant by veteran school board member, Judy Jordan, who announced her retirement earlier in the year, will be filled by Moorman.

A co-founder of the Las Virgenes Education Foundation and a small business owner, Moorman finished the race with 6,352 votes, or 23.5 percent. Moorman has been a regular participant at school board meetings.

Joann Melancon, an active volunteer in Calabasas schools and the Special Education Parent Teachers Association, tallied 5,278 votes, or 19.5 percent of the votes.
