Tuesday is recycling day

Tues., Nov. 15 is America Recycles Day and time to remember the world’s finite natural resources are still being depleted.

When a new soda can is created, for instance, the production process emits toxic gases that pollute the air, land, and water. Recycling helps reduce this pollution.

Over 70 million tons of material have been diverted away from landfills within the U.S., thanks to mass conservation and recycling efforts since 2002. Collected materials are being turned into valuable resources instead of becoming waste and taking up space in landfills.

The city of Calabasas has implemented various programs to help residents in their recycling efforts by giving prizes for Recycler of the Month and hosting citywide collection events for battery, electronics, waterbased paint and used oil.
