Event a success

Heroic firefighters, great weather, donated food and grateful families—the perfect combination for a wonderful community barbecue on Oct. 29 as approximately 1,000 people came to Deerhill Park in Oak Park to say thank you for a job well done to firefighters from Los Angeles County, Ventura County and the city of Los Angeles. I’d like to personally thank many of the people who helped support this tribute with donations of cash or supplies,including Pavilions of Thousand Oaks, Dr. Steven and Jan Iceland of Oak Park, Mayor Ed Corridori and the city of Agoura Hills, Bell Canyon Community Association, Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, and the residents who brought several delicious salads.

A special note of thanks to my district director, Louise Rishoff, who coordinated this event with the help of our staff members, Timothy Lippman and Robin Squier. Harvey Kern, who writes the popular Oak Park Update, helped publicize the event. Thank you to Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks, Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Agoura Hills Mayor Ed Corridori and Councilmembers Jeff Reinhardt and John Edelston, Calabasas Councilmember Dennis Washburn and the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District Director Glen Peterson for joining the celebration.
