Calabasas writers, poets form Open Mic Club

Local writers and poets can share their work at the newly founded Open Mic Club in Calabasas.

Calabasas resident Herb Rosenkrantz said he founded the club because he wanted to provide the community with an intellectual and social setting they could be proud of.

“I became aware of the open mic format at CSUCI (Cal State Channel Islands) where I am an English major,” Rosenkrantz said. “Students whose works have been published in the school literary magazine are invited to read and share their works with others . . . I brought this idea to the Calabasas Library in the hope of attracting writers and poets to read, share and discuss their original works with each other.”

No fee is required to perform at the club.

“I expect hosts to just take turns with the refreshments one time each month,” Rosenkrantz said.
