Community needs inn and spa As a parent and resident of Calabasas, I think it’s very important that our community support the Malibu Valley Inn and Spa. Calabasas is known for its amazing school system and community spirit. We have the Method Fest in the spring and the Pumpkin Festival in the fall. The inn and spa will only enhance our city further by providing amenities we are lacking. It will be a center to visit our park system and ride, walk and bike through 150,000 acres of parkland. It will provide classes and athletic facilities for our own kids and it will bring in over $2.4 million a year to Calabasas to allow the city to provide even more wonderful events for our community. I support the inn and spa and hope you will, too, by voting yes on Measure C. Geoff Silver Calabasas Calabasas provides so many things to its residents. With the tax revenue from the Malibu Valley Inn and Spa we will be able to provide our community with even more. The inn and spa will provide an average of $2.4 million in tax revenue to our city every year. With this money, we can support our schools and provide more activities for our children. We can improve our roads. We can provide much needed services for our seniors. We can even buy open space. Not only is this project fiscally responsible, but it is also ecologically responsible because it preserves 300 acres of open space as well. Support our community. Support the inn and spa. Vote yes on Measure C. Tony Della Ripa Calabasas know, I headed a project to improve both the baseball and softball fields at our high school for our city’s children. I know how much these new facilities mean to our students. I support the Malibu Valley Inn and Spa because of the additional amenities it will provide for our kids. The Olympic-size pool, tennis courts, classes and summer camps are all facilities our children deserve. I hope the residents of our community will join me in supporting the inn and spa as well by voting yes on Measure C. Bret Saberhagen Calabasas Calabasas residents have been bombarded with confusing mail regarding Measure C. I recommend everyone look at the impartial statement prepared by Calabasas City Attorney Michael G. Coluntuono. Here are the most important items: In 1988, Los Angeles County approved a tentative subdivision map and other permits allowing development of 81 additional single-family lots of 443 acres. In 2003, the property owner successfully defended a lawsuit challenging the subdivision, the approval of which currently expires in 2008. Calabasas would receive no property taxes from the subdivision. As for the resort, the city would receive hotel bed taxes and part of sales and property taxes if the project is annexed. Environmental import reports and annexation approvals would provide opportunities for further mitigation of traffic, aesthetic and other impacts. Development of 81 singlefamily lots would take 443 acres. The resort would be on 81.7 acres with more than 300 acres remaining undeveloped. These facts are from the city attorney’s impartial statement. Fred Gaines Calabasas Our family has lived in Calabasas for over 33 years. The Malibu Valley Inn and Spa will be wonderful for all of us. My neighbors and friends are so passionate about this great inn. Please don’t listen to the lies the people from outside our great city are saying. It will be great for us all. There are no negatives. Please vote yes on Measure C. This will be so much better than 81 homes. Larry, Brad, Kevin and Kip Hyman Calabasas |
