Oncologists to discuss lung cancer treatments

Local families battling lung cancer are invited to attend a free workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 10 at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village.

“Frankly Speaking About Lung Cancer: Stepping Back to Take a Closer Look” will feature Harry Menco, MD, a local oncologist who will provide the most current information about the diagnosis, staging and treatment of lung cancer including novel therapies.

Patti Gariano, RN, MN, will discuss side-effect management and encourage patients to build a proactive relationship with their health-care team during recovery.

“This is an opportunity for people with lung cancer and their loved ones to gather vital information for informed treatment decisions and ways to improve their quality of life after lung cancer treatment,” said Marty Nason, RN, MN, program director at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura.

All participants will receive a free resource booklet endorsed by The Wellness Community, CancerCare and ALCASE. For more information and to register, call (805) 379-4777. A light dinner is included.

Menco received his postgraduate education at UCLA and Georgetown University and was a member of the clinical faculty at UCLA Center for Health Sciences. He is in private practice in medical oncology/ hematology and internal medicine in Thousand Oaks.
