Religious Science church to open new facility

The Westlake Church of Religious Science will host the official grand opening of its new home at the Water Court at the 10 a.m. Celebration of Life service Sun., Nov. 6 at 880 Hampshire Road, Suites V and W, Westlake Village. A tour of the facility and reception will follow. The public is invited.

According to Cherie Deeds, church music director, the grand opening will feature music performed by the Westlake Church choir and in-house band.

The church was chartered in the Conejo Valley in 1963. Since that time, the church has served the spiritual needs of the community through teaching the principles of religious science and science of mind.

Co-pastors Dr. Sue Rubin and the Rev. James Lockard quote Dr. Ernest Holmes, founder of the Church of Religious Science, as defining the tradition of religious science in this way:

“Religious science is a correlation of the laws of science, the opinions of philosophy and the revelations of religion as applied to human needs and aspirations.”

Next year, Rubin will celebrate her 10th year with the church. Lockard has been with the church since August.
