Denis Weber Denis Weber Denis Weber, the only incumbent running for the Agoura Hills City Council, has been a mover and shaker in the community for more than a decade. Weber is one of six candidates vying for three council seats in the Nov. 8 election. If elected, Weber will serve his fourth term.

Weber launched the city’s open space task force eight years agoToday, 40 percent of the land in the city is either parks or dedicated open space. While he supports open spaceWeber defends the city’s growing approval of office developments and furniture stores.

“Property is zoned for specific purposes and if someone does have property, they certainly have a righto develop it according to the general plan,” he said, adding the big ticket sales from the city’s new furniture stores have increased the community tax base.

Weber’s vision for Agoura Hills is simple: he wants to bring more retail stores to the city. “More high-end stores, as welas small retail and restaurants, wilcome on line with Agoura Village and the proposed furniture mart,” Weber said. “We have taken greapains to develop in the right place for the right reasons.”

“I think Denis strikes the perfect balance,” said Liberty Canyon resident Larry Brown. “. . . Denis has always been encouraging to local business without losing sight of our desire for open space and issues of lifestyle, compared to some of our over-developed neighbors.”

Concerning the proposed Heschel West Day School just east of Old Agoura, Weber said, “The North Area plan was drawn up to preserve the overall land use in our area . . . a project of this size in this location would be detrimental to the fragile environment (and have an) enormous impact on traffic.”

Committee work has been integral to Weber’s success on the city council. He’s formed and served on several committees, including finance, city/schools, city beautification and several economic development committees. He’s also served 12 years on the city council’s law enforcement committee.

Weber initiated the Mayor’s Roundtable four years ago to help the city run more efficiently, and worked on two special purpose committees to change both the city’s lighting and sign ordinances.

“The businesses were frustrated with these issues and, once again, I think we did make a difference by listening and amending the rules,” he said.

A commercial banker and a resident of Agoura Hills for 20 years, Weber is among the original members of the board of governors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Conejo Valley. He was cubmaster for Agoura Hills Cub Scout Pack 227 and served as scoutmaster and chaplin for Boy Scout Troup 775. He’s an officer in the Naval Cadet Corps, which he said is similar to Boy Scouts, with a military focus.

He is a member of the Rotary Club and the Westlakers, an organization that raises money for scholarships for students graduating from Agoura and Westlake high schools.
