Pepperdine student earns fine arts grant

Jessica Brandes, 20, a senior at Pepperdine University in Malibu, won a $1,500 Chissar Family Fine Arts Grant from the College Dream Foundation.

Judges chose Brandes, the daughter of Ramona and Joel Brandes of Westlake Village, because of her mastery of the bassoon and her entrepreneurial spirit.

She’s a member of the Pepperdine Symphony and Woodwind Ensemble and has played in many musicals and operas.

“Jessica is an outstanding example of what young people can achieve, and we know she has a bright future. The College Dream Foundation is pleased to be able to help her towards her goals,” said Ed Menster, foundation executive director.

The grant is given to instrumentalists and vocalists who have a promising talent in the field of music. Brandes is majoring in music and business administration, with plans to become an entertainment lawyer.
