Concert at The Canyon to benefit Harp seals

A benefit concert will be held at The Canyon in Agoura Hills on Thurs., Nov. 3 to help Harpseals.org and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in the effort to stop the annual slaughter of over 300,000 baby Harp seals in Canada, the largest mammal massacre on earth.

Special guest appearances will include musicians Carmine Appice, Stuart Smith and Richie Onori and also feature four of L.A.’s top rock tribute bands, including Saturday Night Special and Dreamboat Annie.

Starting at 10:30 p.m., The Canyon’s own in-house group, Boogie Knights, will spirit concertgoers back in time with a tribute to the music of the ‘70s.

Each year Canadian baby Harp seals are clubbed or shot to death and over 40 percent are skinned alive at their ice floe nurseries for the European and Russian fur markets, and the Chinese demand for the adult penis bone marketed as an aphrodisiac.

There will be a silent auction of items signed by famous musicians, including two Fender R/W Standard Stratocaster guitars signed by Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge, Howard Leese of Heart, Keith Emerson of Emerson Lake and Palmer and the entire Toto band.

Harpseals.org and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will also have seal-related items such as tee shirts, cups and novelties for sale.

Slideshow and video images in the silent auction room will supplement verbal and printed information on the plight of the baby seals.

The cost to attend is $15 at the door, or through Ticketmaster.

Harpseals.org and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society are nonprofit organizations working to end the Canadian seal hunt.
