Councilmember endorses trio On Nov. 8, Agoura Hills will elect a majority to the city council. I congratulate each of the candidates for their effort and personal sacrifice required to run for city council. Agoura Hills is a wonderful, safe community with great schools. Agoura Hills deserves to have the best leaders who will work to improve the quality of life of those who live in our community. I examined the campaign materials of the candidates and have spent time with each who has asked to meet with me, discussing their knowledge of key issues, their history of prior community leadership and involvement and their vision for the future. I look for distinctions between words of convenience rather than words of convictions. Denis Weber, Bill Koehler and Harry Schwarz are candidates for Agoura Hills City Council who stand out as having the conviction and commitment to working with me on the many challenges and opportunities that face our city. Denis Weber has served the city for 12 years in many capacities, but most prominently as a city councilmember. Denis and I have worked together on many important council committees. I have come to know Denis and respect his experience and sincerity. We share much of the same vision for our city. Supervisor Yaroslavsky acknowledged Denis’ knowledge, expertise and community leadership when he appointed Denis as his representative to the Los Angeles County Board of Retirement. Bill Koehler is exceptionally well qualifed to serve on our city council. Among his community activities, Bill has served for 10 years on the Agoura Hills Planning Commission and nine years as a member of the board of the Morrison Ranch HOA, including serving for a number of years as its president. Bill also has a long history of commitment to serving his professional community, including acting as an active volunteer in the L.A. County Superior Court Arbitration and Mediation Program for more than 15 years. Harry Schwarz has served on the planning commission seven years as Ed Corridor’s appointeeThe Fountainwood community elected Harry to its HOA board of directors eight years ago. The board in turn elected him as its president for six of those yearsIn his various leadership positions, Harry was instrumental in obtaining new fencing for Sumac Elementary School and has worked with both Agoura High School’s music and theater boosters. Each of these three candidates devotes himself to his family and work, but also finds meaning and value in serving the community. John Edelston Agoura Hills City Council |
