USTA Challenger of Calabasas off and running despite inclement weather


TOP COMPETITION—American Jan-Michael Gambill, currently ranked No. 161 by the United States  Tennis  Association,  wraps  a  shot  past  Sam Warburg  during  a  first-round  match Tuesday night at the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center. Gambill won the match, 6-1, 6-1, under threatening skies. The Challenger of Calabasas will run throughout the weekend with both  singles  and  doubles  play. Some of  the  biggest  names  in  this  year’s  field  include Americans Justin Gimelstob and Bobby Reynolds. There will be a Celebrity/Pro Am exhibition tonight beginning at 7 p.m. with television and movie stars set to participate. Saturday’s events feature Kids Day festivities with games and prizes for the youngsters. Semifinal play also begins at noon on Saturday.
