JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers AVOIDING THE TACKLE—Calabasas wide receiver Eric Ammon slips past Moorpark defensive back Ryne Intlekofer during last weekend’s Coyote loss to the Musketeers. CHS hosts the defending league champions Royal Highlanders Friday at 7 p.m. Outlook: Last weekend’s 9-7 loss to Carpinteria was a big setback for the postseason aspirations of the Oak Park Eagles.
But the season is still a long way from being settled, and if the Eagles want to qualify for the playoffs they’ll have to right the ship this weekend against Bishop Diego.
Oak Park’s offense is averaging just over 20 points per game and showed good balance against Carpinteria, rushing for 158 yards and throwing for 149 yards.
The problem for the Eagles has been getting the ball in the end zone, something they’ll have to fix in order beat Bishop Diego.
It won’t be easy though, as Bishop’s defense is allowing just 13.3 points per game.
Outlook: Calabasas isn’t getting Royal at a very good time.
The Highlanders lost a nail bitter to Agoura at home, 14-13, last Friday and will be hungry for a win against a struggling CHS squad.
The Coyotes dropped their sixth game of the season to Moorpark, 35-6, last weekend.
One of the bright spots for CHS during the loss to Moorpark was the play of defensive back Zach Gerson (seven tackles), defensive back Matt Laterza (18 tackles and one INT) and defensive lineman Andrew Steinberg (18 tackles).
All three players, along with the rest of the Calabasas defense, will have their collective hands full trying to contain Royal running back Curtis Marsh.
