Viewpoint opens a new academic center

Viewpoint School’s board of trustees, students, faculty and staff joined Calabasas city officials in a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the school’s new Upper School Academic Center.

The ceremony commemorated the opening of a 40,925-square-foot building, which features classrooms, state-of-the-art science labs and a technology center set in a restored natural environment that includes a stream. A 406-seat theater will open in December.

Dworkoski said Viewpoint’s board Chairman Steve Carlson, his wife, Leslie, and brother Richard Carlson pledged $1.2 million to name the Main StageTheater of the new Performing Arts Center in honor of their parents, Arnold and Ruth Carlson.

Combined with their prior gifts, the family has donated and pledged $2 million to support Viewpoint’s Building for Our Children Campaign.

Firefighters given well-deserved thanks HERO’S WELCOME—Lupin Hill Elementary School students host a recent visit from Station 125 firefighters on their school campus. The children welcomed the firemen with a personalized BILL SPARKES/Acorn Newspapers thank you banner, festive songs and a gift basket. In return, the firemen demonstrated some of the equipment they use. The students experienced firefighting firsthand when, during the ceremony, the crew received an emergency call and literally ran off the stage to do their duty.
