Inn and spa good for the environment

Do you want to preserve open space? Do you want to save oak trees? Do you want to save our ridgelines? Do you support the Malibu Valley Inn and Spa?

If you answered yes to the first three questions, then you should have also answered yes to the fourth.

The most important piece of information about this project is that it is a choice between the resort or 81 houses. Open space for the whole site is not an option in this case. So which of the two options, houses or a resort, is better for the environment?

The resort requires 400 percent less grading on sensitive habitat. The houses will require over four times the grading. The county has already issued a permit to remove 78 oak trees but the inn and spa removes only 72 oak trees.

Furthermore, the houses were approved before the grading and ridgeline ordinance was passed. Therefore, they are vested and don’t need to comply with that ordinance. The house pads are approved right on the ridgelines, which will be leveled to accommodate building the houses. The resort will be incorporated into the topography, saving 75 percent of the hillsides.

The choice is clear. Support the environment. Support the Malibu Valley Inn and Spa. Vote yes on Measure C. Richard Hirsh Calabasas
