Displaced families welcomed in Agoura Hills Our family of seven left New Orleans on the eve of Hurricane Katrina. We arrived in Houston and remained at the Marriott Hotel for three days. After communicating with our daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Marshall Jones, and their four children, they demanded that we come to Agoura Hills to stay with them. We could not envision them housing four more adults and three more children. However, after much encouragement, we made the trip to Agoura Hills. Words cannot express the gratitude for the great concern shown to all of us by the wonderful community, friends and neighbors of the Joneses upon our arrival. We are really overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of so many who opened their hearts to reach out to us during these crucial times. Our primary concern was to enroll the three children—ages 17, 14 and 11—into school. We succeeded with the phenomenal help of the staff, parents and students at Oaks Christian School, all of whom have shown incredible compassion and support. We will be forever grateful to all for assisting us in making the adjustments to a new change. Many, many thanks to our new community family. Another round of thanks must be given to the Los Angeles and Ventura County firefighters who saved our new home in the fires last week. Yes, in the middle of the night, all 12 of us, plus two dogs, evacuated, yet again, this time because of fire. We’ve really had enough excitement for a while.
