ON THE MEND—Despite the blackened landscape, Ray Sauvajot, an ecologist for the National Parks Service, is confident that the vegetation destroyed during the Topanga Fire—and the wildlife that was threatened—will recover. Local parks are again open to the public, but visitors are asked to abide by a new set of rules so that full restoration can take place.
