Oak Park team in action

My name is Joann Miraglia and I have been with CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) in Oak Park for four years. I have been trained in CPR, search and rescue, first aid and trained under the Red Cross.

On Sept. 28 I received a call from our leader, Diane Starzak, asking me to be on call. The fires were getting bad and I may be needed. At 11:30 that night, the call came in. I was on my way to a command center base in Oak Park. I arrived and was given orders.

With my fellow CERT team and the help of DART (disaster assistance response team) from Thousand Oaks and Camarillo, we set out to the residents of Oak Park and North Ranch. We worked through the night and before we knew it the sun was out. It was a good feeling for all of us to be helping our community.

TwThe reason for this letter is to thank not only the Fire and Sheriff’s Departments for the great work, but the residents of Oaks Park and North Ranch. The response we received from them was heart-warming. We all worked together as a team. Thank you all who supported us during this rough time.
