Mayor’s photo op

I don’t know if anyone else saw the news conference on the local channels Thurs., Sept. 29, four hours before Calabasas became an inferno. Mayor Barry Groveman and other local officials (Fran Pavely, et al.) and high ranking fire officials were at the Calabasas command post having a news conference.

Barry spoke first and, in a true Mike Brown moment, he said, “it looks like Calabasas has been spared and we are thankful for that,” or words to that effect.

Little did he know four hours later, Calabasas would be in a blaze, threatening three neighborhoods. I’m glad I didn’t listen to him.

It would have been more prudent to have advised residents to remain vigilant because wildfires are, at best, capricious things.

I think Barry got too excited about his upcoming photo op with Gov. Arnie and took his eyes off the ball and said something very stupid and ill advised.

Kick him upstairs to higher office? I don’t think so. Nancy Goldsen Calabasas
