JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers RACE FOR THE GOAL LINE—Westlake’s Erik Schneider tracks down Royal running back Curtis Marsh during last Saturday’s game. Outlook: The Warriors will be back on the road for the fourth consecutive week to take on a white-hot Simi Valley squad.
With injuries pilling up, there seemed to be a sense of frustration on the Westlake sideline during the team’s 24-21 loss to Royal last Saturday night at Buena High.
Simi’s defense, an Achilles’ heel a year ago, has allowed 66 combined points over the last two weeks, so Westlake and quarterback Ryan Campbell should be able to put up some crooked numbers on the scoreboard.
The question will be if the Warriors can limit Simi’s threeheaded monster of Devin Kelley, Lorne Bell and Bryan Randolph.
Outlook: Despite losing 4835, Calabasas played its finest game of the season last Saturday against Simi Valley.
After trailing the Pioneers early, the Coyotes reeled off 29 second-half points behind quarterback Kevin May and wideout Eric Ammon, who had three receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns.
Newbury Park nearly let a 309 fourth-quarter lead slip away against Agoura in Week 4, before holding on for a 30-23 victory behind 346 yards passing from quarterback Jordan LaSecla.
Stopping LaSecla, the Southern Section’s leading passer, will be a tough task for the Coyotes.
The Panthers must find a way to contain Ammon in this one.
