Navy Reserve Midshipmen Stephen J. Faltemier and Mitchell E. Ratinoff were recently sworn into the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at USC. Faltemier is the son of Sharon and James Faltemier of Westlake Village and a 2005 graduate of Westlake High School. Ratinoff is a 2004 graduate of Viewpont School in Calabasas. Navy Cmdr. David J. Silkey departed on a scheduled deployment while assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 87 embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, homeported in Norfolk, Va. He is a 1979 graduate of Calabasas High School and joined the Navy in 1987.

Air Force Cadets Chase R. Wirtz and Bryn E. Sowa have completed basic cadet training and earned the rank of cadet fourth class at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. in preparation to enter their first academic year at the academy. Wirtz is the son of Rob and Catherine Wirtz of Westlake Village and a 2005 graduate of Westlake High School. Sowa is the daughter of Pete and Cynthia Sowa of Thousand Oaks and a 2005 graduate of Thousand Oaks High School.
