Please call (818) 878-3741 for information on these and other classes and events scheduled. From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 1, landscape architect Thomas Kaye will teach participants how to “Build a Living Wall.” He’ll show how to build an easyto-maintain, inexpensive and durable dry-stack living wall out of rubble rock pieces filled with interesting textures and flowers. Those attending should bring gloves and succulents to share. This class will be cancelled in case of rain. Free tours of the John and Juliana Gensley Demonstration Garden will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays, Oct. 14 and Nov. 18. Tour stops will include the greenhouse, propagation facilities and seed bank and viewing more than 120 indigenous plant species. Spike Dolomite Ward of the Arts in Education Council will lead a family sketch hike from noon to 2 p.m. Sat., Oct. 15. This is an easy-paced “walk, talk and sketch” outing with a break for lunch. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should bring sketchpads, pencils, a picnic lunch and drinking water and dress for outdoor activities. This class will be cancelled in case of rain. A plant propagation workshop will be offered from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thurs., Nov. 10. Participants will learn how to grow their favorite plants from proper collection and propagation methods. In case of rain, this class will be cancelled. Rainfall in November will present optimum conditions to forage for wild mushrooms with Nathan Wilson from 10 to 11:55 a.m. Sat., Dec. 10. Wilson is the former president of the Los Angeles Mycological Society and science advisor to the Fungus Federation of Santa Cruz. A discussion will follow the hunt for wild mushrooms, which will proceed rain or shine. |
