Water board out of touch It was good to see the Regional Water Control Board hold a hearing in our community. Hopefully, it will reflect on having seen and heard over 100 area residents voice their concerns about the board’s staff proposals that will cost us millions and produce next to nothing in the way of environmental benefits. The board also showed its disconnection with the impacts they generate on us, the ratepayersthrough their skewed decisionmaking process. In order to please a few vocal citizens, they’re willing to heap some $150 million onto our sewer fees. One board member said it shouldn’t cost us money because the debt could be financedWhat? Who does she think will pay for the bonds to build the facilities they mandate? How does a person like this even get appointed to a board that can require the spending of hundreds of millions of dollars in the blink of an eye? I just may go to the hearing downtown on Oct. 6 to try and get an explanation from the board on how their version of fuzzy math works. It’s apparent they’re willing to spend my last dime to please a very small minority. Maybe it’s time for the governor to clean house on the regional board and appoint some people who know where the money comes from. Dick Crowley Agoura Hills |
