Proposal is all wet The Regional Water Quality Control Board is intent on forcing Las Virgenes Municipal Water District to spend millions of (our) ratepayer dollars to pump highly-treated water up Malibu Canyon and over the Calabasas Grade into the Los Angeles River. What no one has bothered to explain is, “why?” The water district already refrains from dumping reclaimed water in Malibu Creek during the seven summer months, so we’ll be spending vast sums of money for no good purpose. The claim is there’s algae in the creek in winter and somehow sending Tapia’s treated water to Los Angeles is the “cure.” Never mind that algae is not a winter phenomenon and the winter rains flush the creek system. It’s time to apply some real science and community-wide efforts in addressing the issues of Malibu Creek. What seems to be happening now is that a handful of activists are willing to bet millions of your dollars on a scheme that lacks a firm foundation. It’s time for the Regional Board to come back to the real world and listen to the concerns of the people who will be stuck paying the bills for their lack of science and realism.
